Physical Education
Expectations of Students
Students have P. E. twice a week. It is expected that students treat their classmates and teacher with respect. Showing good sportsmanship in physical activities and competition is also extremely important. Whether they are on a team that wins or loses, the children are expected to handle the outcome in a positive manner. The children are asked to always try their best during P.E. class, even if it is an activity that they are not very excited about.
Skills
The students will learn basic skills and fundamentals necessary to participate in athletic activities that are covered during the year. If there are some students already knowledgeable of and proficient in a particular skill, that skill will still be taught so that all of the students can achieve the same level of education and be prepared for the sports covered in each unit. The basic skills that will be taught this year include spatial awareness, organization, throwing and catching, kicking, and shooting (in both soccer and basketball). Accuracy in these skills will be emphasized.
Units
Below are some of the main units that will be covered this year:
-
• Fitness/Conditioning
-
• Organization
-
• Games and Sports
-
• Dance and Gymnastics
-
• Fun and Choice Activities
-
• Team Building Activities
Grading
Students’ grades will not be based on natural physical ability. Grades will be based on effort, sportsmanship, teamwork, and willingness to try new athletic activities. A student, who follows directions, does his/her best in class activities, and treats his/her teacher and classmates with respect and kindness will receive a high grade in P.E. class.
